“Penny Barreras and Farwood Farm is the only quarantine facility Fox Fire Farm uses. The care is outstanding and stallions we have put through there arrived in very good condition. I would recommend Farwood Farm to anyone importing horses.”
- Karen Reid, Owner, Fox Fire Farm
"In the last year I have placed 3 mares in the care of Penny at Farwood and each experience has been absolutely super! The level of professionalism Penny and her team provides has made importing of my mares a breeze.Better yet, when I receive my mares at home after the time in quarantine they're immediately usable, and in one instance I was showing within two weeks! She's always available by phone if I have questions and responds to emails quickly. While the facility may be a little farther from my ranch than others, with the very reasonable rates and the guarantee quality of service I receive has assured my future business for many more mares to come."
- Simon Nizri, Owner, Wild Flower Farm
"I just want to say how great it has been to have used the services of Farwood CEM Quarantine from February of 2002 until now April of 2016. For Quarantine transportation and going above and beyond I highly recommend them. Thank you so much Penny."
- Debora Jenson, US Horse Association
"We have trusted our horses to the care of Penny Barreras at Farwood Farm for many years. We never have to worry about the horses while they are in quarantine because of the knowledgeable care and exercise (if asked for) that the horses receive from Penny and her staff. The stallions, many of whom are new to breeding, have always come out of quarantine as well mannered and quiet as they were before they were imported. Penny runs a great facility that we have recommended on many occasions to others with similar needs."

Penny is star and you can rest assured your new horse will be in wonderful and capable hands!!
Before I even considered buying a stallion, I called Penny at Farwood Farm to better understand the 5 week CEM quarantine process, particularly the breeding and stabling part. After all, both live breeding and keeping a fit, young stallion in quarantine for 5 weeks is not necessarily a normal part of horse ownership.
Penny has a wonderful reputation, and I now understand why. She made the whole process easy and stress free. And what I thought would be the longest 5 weeks of my life, flew by. She is excellent communicating with clients and keeps you informed and up to date. Upon my 5 year old stallion’s arrival into Farwood, she emailed me after he was settled in (at 3 AM!) to let me know that we was happily tucked away in his stall eating a warm bran mash with normal vitals and stomach sounds.
I was lucky enough to be able to visit him twice during his 5 week stay. Penny worked around my schedule to make sure I had time with him. The facility is wonderful. It is a quiet and peaceful barn, with very nice stalls and a covered arena with good footing in which to exercise the horses. And as a side note, she also manages her own 5013c horse rescue adjacent to the quarantine facility… As I said, she is a star!
I would have no concerns bringing another stallion or mare through Penny at Farwood Farm. I also wouldn’t have any concerns about her exercising my horse either. In my mind, Penny is the only West Coast option for USDA equine quarantine. She is a wonderful, compassionate and capable horse woman. She was also quite the eventer and clearly knows what she is doing. Rest assured, your horse will be in excellent hands during their time with Penny.
